There are many Endocrine glands present in our body and their work is to create hormones. Thyroid gland is one of the endocrine glands which is located in the middle of neck. Thyroid gland secrets two types of hormones: T3 and T4 which regulates the metabolism of our body. T3 hormones are secreted in 10 to 30 micrograms and T4 hormones are secreted in 60 to 90 micrograms. In the body of a healthy person, thyroid glands secrets both hormones in right quantity whereas in disturbance the level of secreted hormones increase or decrease. TSH hormones controls the level of these two hormones in the body. TSH (Thyroid stimulating hormone) is a hormone secreted from pituary gland.
- The two main types of thyroid disease are hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. Both conditions can be caused by other diseases that impact the way the thyroid gland works.
